Dear Parents: Last night, I gave an introduction to NCSY Derech to all of our participants in a quiet location in the Old City of Yerushalayim. An Israeli man wanted to know who we were. When he found out about NCSY Derech, he said, "Thank you for coming." In other words, our program has already given strength and inspiration to the people of Eretz Yisrael. The Israelis truly appreciate seeing the faces of tourists who are in Israel for the summer. The true thank you, however, goes to the NCSY Derech parent body. You are the secret heroes who allowed your sons to gain from this unique opportunity in Israel this summer. Thank you all. Last night, the Derech boys settled into the Beit Meir campus and then travelled to the old city for maariv and mishmar. This morning, we had orientation, a short shiur, and experienced our first hike. Specifically, we walked part of the Burma Road with a tour guide who told us the history of the Burma Road in 1948. After that, NCSY Derech headed to Machaneh Yehuda, or "the Shuk," to experience the Erev Shabbos chaos. Our program is off to a very strong start! I truly look forward to spending our first Shabbos together in Beit Meir. The group truly consists of such nice boys who are so excited to experience NCSY Derech this summer! Thank you for sharing your sons with NCSY Derech. Good Shabbos! Rav Yoni
